Flying with my pug

I'm going to spend the summer abroad and I want (and have to) bring Loopy with me but I'm a bit concerned about flying with him. It is a 3 hour direct flight and he will be 8 months by then. All flying companies have a 6-8kg weight limit to allow pets in the cabin & I have no idea if he will be that heavy by then. When it comes to the temperature inside the airplane I've asked several companies and they've guaranteed me that it is the exact same in the cabin and in the load where he would fly if he's over the weight limit but I am still concerned when it comes to not having him with me during the flight. Although I've though that if he gets to fly in the cabine he will be locked in a much smaller cage during the entire flight which doesn't sound like a good option either.
Has anyone experienced flying with their pugs? Any advice or suggestions? I would really appreciate your help! -

Hi!
I've never actually flown with my pug Zoey, but have looked into it several times. Now she's too big for the weight limit
Most airlines have a 25lb limit, including the weight of the carrier, for them to be in the cabin. I would never let your pug go in the cargo, just heard too many horror stories about that. If your puggy is going to be 8 months, he should be fine with that weight limit, most pet stores sell airline approved carriers. I've been told by other people that have flown with small dogs, they amost never weighed their dogs. You will need a health certificate from your vet that lists the dogs weight, if its under the limit thats usually enough. Good luck! -

Yes-awful, awful HORROR stories about the cargo area-from hot enough to kill them to handlers throwing the crates around like lugguge. I have heard it on the news more than once but cannot remember which networks or exactly when-but they said to never take them if not in the cabin. They said don't believe for a minute it is not hot enough to kill them.

Thank you all for the replies!
I've been researching a lot and I found out that American airline companies are a lot more thoughtful when it comes to pets, unfortunately I'm traveling in Europe and the companies that are possible for me to fly with have a ver low weight limit for the cabine and they're all extremely inflexible. All I can do is wait and hope that Loopy won't be over 7-8kg by the time we're flying and if he is I'm willing to pay the fine so he can fly in the cabine with me anyway. I'm taking the cargo area as my absolute last option.

Hey Marta-not trying to scare you-you can just read-some airlines are changing their rules. This is in the news today.

Thank you for the information! I have done a lot of research by now and in Europe the rules are slightly different, I've decided to travel a bit earlier so I'll know for sure that Loopy won't be too heavy to fly in the cabine with me. I'm obviously going to get him checked at the vet. He's a very healthy puppy I'm positive he's going to be okay, my main concern was not having him with me.

Hi Marta,
I used to like in the UK and moved last year to Australia. i posted here at the time and was given alot of negative feedback about flying. i did alot of research, soul searching and had lots of discussions with my partner and in the end we brought Stewie over with us. He was in quarantine for 4 LONG weeks but i can honestly say that he is exactly the same cheeky, healthy pug that he was in the UK and has no ill effects from the long haul flight.
This is purely my experience and i'm not trying to persuade you either way. good luck with whatever you decide.

Sorry I can't give any advice on this one. I don't fly anywhere. HA! But I hope he gets to fly in with you and not in the cargo. Was wondering though, how old is he now and how much does he weight now?

MaggieMaePug - Thank you, I will

ivy - I've been pretty much constantly thinking about it for over a month now but I really have to bring him with me, I'm going to visit my family (who are dying to meet Loopy) & I have no one who could stay with him over that period of time. My biggest concern is if he has to travel in cargo but I will try everything I can to avoid that.
KatB - He's three months next week and he must be around 3kg now. The last time I checked (nearly a month ago) he was 2,5kg.
